Our history

International Baptist Church (IBC) was established in 1978 as a house church that was gathering in the home of American church planters Randi and Sherri Dodd. Eventually, as the church outgrew the home of the Dodds, IBC moved to new premises in Sandvika. In 1985 Randi and Sherri moved back to the US, and Jack Slough became the pastor of the church for the next 22 years. During his tenure, the church experienced steady growth, especially among the foreign students in Oslo. In 2007 Jack and Marylin moved back to the states, and Bob Burns, who had been serving as an Associate pastor at the time, became the senior pastor. Bob and MaryScott also served the church faithfully until 2015 when the church transitioned out of the oversight of ABWE (Association of Baptists for World Evangelism), who had been supplying the pastors for IBC since 1985.

After 2 years of reorganizing, and searching for a pastor, the church called in August 2017 Joseph Simon as the new pastor. Joseph and Val moved to Norway from Romania where they have been serving faithfully for 26 years in a Hungarian speaking church. With Joseph as the pastor, IBC  continues its initial mission, which is to serve the international community in the Oslo metropolitan area.

In June 2023 Joseph Simon retired and his son David Simon, who recently graduated from seminary, was called to be the next pastor of the church. David, his wife Bianca and their three daughters (Rebeca, Sarah, and Hannah) have been living in Norway since 2013.
